Interesting Stuff - Week 23, 2019

Throughout the week, I read a lot of blog-posts, articles, and so forth, that has to do with things that interest me:

  • data science
  • data in general
  • distributed computing
  • SQL Server
  • transactions (both db as well as non db)
  • and other “stuff”

This blog-post is the “roundup” of the things that have been most interesting to me, for the week just ending.

SQL Server

  • The June release of Azure Data Studio is now available. What the title says. You can now download the June release of Azure Data Studio, or, if you already have it installed, it should upgrade automatically. There are quite a few highlights in this release. The one that interests me the most is the improvements in SQL Notebooks

Data Science

SQL Server 2019

  • SQL Server 2019 Extensibility Framework & External Languages. A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a blog post about changes in SQL Server 2019 CTP 2.5 related to how you write Java code for use by SQL Server. Well, a bit later, Microsoft released SQL Server 2019 CTP 3.0 with more changes around this topic (Java code in SQL Server), and in this blog post, I discuss these changes.
